Obituary: Mary (Shimmin) Andrews Mary Shimmin was born on 13, 1930 to Robert and Verna Shimmin, at the family home in McPherson , Nebraska. She had 10 brothers and sisters, Mary was the second youngest. Most of her years growing up were spent on the family ranch in the Sand Hills of Nebraska (North of Tryon). She attended grade school for 8 years in a typical one room schoolhouse of the times. High School was in Tryon, Nebraska, 13 miles from home. Mary graduated from high school with a teaching certificate. She taught in a one room school for one year \ she had 4 students. In 1949, she went to Fort Morgan, Colorado to visit her sister Dorothy. Dorothy introduced her to a young man named Dick Andrews. met in May and were married 4th, 1949. lived in Brush, Fort Morgan, and Broomfield Colorado. In addition to being a wife and mother, she worked outside the home at various jobs. These included Dairy King, cleaning houses, a maid at her sisters Best Western Motel, and managing a Laundromat. moving to Broomfield, she worked for Wej-It, a bolt factory for 3 years. Wanting to contribute more to the family income, she went to work for Western Electric. At Western Electric, she wired units, and tested finished units, and worked in the warehouse. Mary was active in the church where she taught school and folded bulletins. Mary provided meals for her church family when the need would arise. For twenty years she sent get well, sympathy, and encouragement cards to those at church. Mary could be counted on to send her delicious cinnamon rolls for the men on work days at the church building. Her hobbies included making friends, quilting, crocheting, knitting, baking bread and Christmas candies, and spending time with her family. Mary liked to travel. Dick and Mary traveled to: Australia, Italy, Germany, Austria, Norway, Switzerland, Canada, Mexico and most of the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Dick Andrews, her daughters Sue (Dennis) Myers and Jan (Stan) Dmytrowitz, and son Bert (Lorna) Andrews. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary is also survived by two sisters, Jessie (Gene) Eskew, and Rose (Don) Dobbins. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, Donna, and by eight brothers and sisters. Alfred Shimmin, Bruce Shimmin, Ben Shimmin, Robert Shimmin, Dorthy Kirk, Mattie Patchin, Wilma Shimmin, Paul Shimmin. Mary would like everyone to know that she lived a full and happy life. Leonard married Jennifer Wesson on 28, 1953 in Handsworth England. immigrated to the USA in 1955 and he joined the Air Force where he served 12 years. He was a loving husband for 64 years and a loving father for 60 years. He was preceded in death by his sons, John Clayton Andrews, and Michael Neal Andrews. He is survived by his wife Jennifer; sons Leonard Jr. (Sherry) and Bryan (Sandy); and daughter-in-law Kim; as well as many grandchildren and great grand children. He will be missed. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on 27th at 10:00am at the Adrian Comer Garden Chapel. |
