Obituary: Nellie Grace Assink was born in Yakima on 5, 1920 to Martin and Grace (Byl) Gilde. When she was six, the family bought a farm in lower Naches. Nellie started first grade at the lower Naches Grade School. She learned to speak English in first grade because they spoke only Dutch at home. Nellie graduated from lower Naches High School and Whitman earning both a degree in music and her teaching credentials. She was a teacher and librarian at Lower Naches School for over 20 years. On 9, 1949 she married George Harold Assink. lived first in Mabton and then moved to the family farm in lower Naches where they invested themselves in family, church and community. Nellie played the piano and organ at the Memorial Bible Church where she was also the church librarian. She attended church here for over 90 years and was a lifelong member. She was a lifelong member of the Republican Party and served as Caucus Chairman. She was also active in the lower Naches Womans Club, Yakima Farm Bureau and the Yakima Valley Church Librarians Association. Nellie enjoyed reading, photography and travel. Her favorite destinations included Holland, Cannon Beach and Hawaii. Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, George Assink, her parents, Martin and Grace Gilde, two sisters, Margery Gilde and Martina Schmidt, and one brother, Martin Gilde, Jr. She is survived by her children Marty and Liz Assink and Macile Assink. Other family members include Eleanor (Daniel) Schroeder, Jeanna Umberger, Tracey (Jacob) Bloom, Thomas (Som) Weber, Tom and Richard Zais. Heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers Theresa Scott and Marla Prante. We would be remiss not to mention her little furry friends Willie, Andy and Sammie. A memorial service will be held on , 1, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the Gleed Memorial Bible Church. She will be laid to rest in the Terrace Heights Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Memorial Bible Church Library or another charity of the donors choice. under the direction of Keith & Keith , Yakima, WA. |

Obituary: Dorothy was born on 27, 1927 in South Dakota, to Henry and Jennie (Vander Molen) Kuiken, and passed away peacefully at St. Joseph Hospital, in Bellingham, WA, on 27, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, in 2005. Dorothy was a life-long active member of First Reformed Church, in Lynden, and worked for the Lynden School District as secretary at Fisher Elementary School for 22 years, prior to her retirement. Dorothy is survived by her children, Doug (Don McDermott) Ausink, Duane Ausink, Debra (Harold) Coleman, and Dennis (Irene) Assink; brothers, Dick (Judy) Kuiken, Gerrit Kuiken, Henry Kuiken, and Eugene (Sylvia) Kuiken; grandchildren, Ryan Hubby, Chris (Tosha) Hubby, Todd (Christyna) Assink, and Katie (Marshall) Norman; great grandchildren, Payton, Maisen, Karsen, Rylee Hubby, Megyn and Levi Norman, and Cayden and Sadie Assink; and numerous nieces and nephews.
