Obituary: Surrounded by her family, Marie went to meet her Lord and Savior on 28, 2015 after a hard fought battle with cancer. She was born Oct. 17, 1928 to Thomas and Ester Selstad in Great Falls, Montana. Marie grew up in the wheat fields in the small town of Dutton, Montana. She had one sister (Alice) and 4 brothers (Joe, William, Reuben, and Tom). Tom is her last surviving sibling. She loved Montana and enjoyed riding her horse in her early years. Marie began driving at age 12 to help out on the farm. During her early years she attended grade school in Dutton, Montana and Glendale, California. The family would spend the winters in California returning to Montana in the spring. She graduated from Great Falls High School in 1946 and attended the University of Montana in Missoula. Marie had a passion for her Norwegian heritage, and spent a year (1947-1948) in Norway, learning the language, meeting her relatives, cooking lutefisk, kransekake, leftsa and other Norwegian delights which she continued to do throughout her life. Lowell Anderson pried Marie off her feet and they married in 1956. lived in Tacoma, WA and Denver, Colorado before relocating to Olympia Washington in 1965 where they purchased property and built the home they currently live in. Marie is survived by her husband Lowell and their 3 sons, Stephen, David (Teresa) and Dale (Beckie) and 4 grand kids. Marie got her pioneering spirit from her mother Ester who homesteaded as a single 17 year old woman from Norway to Montana and began farming 160 acres. Marie was a true pioneer woman, making most all the family meals from scratch and was a gifted cook. Her meals were exquisite. She loved working in the yard and garden growing fruits and vegetables for her family. She canned everything.pickled beets, beans, corn, applesauce, cherries, raspberries, prunes, peaches and tuna. made gallons of apple cider and grape juice every year. Her work ethic was the backbone and a testimony of her lifestyle. Marie enjoyed traveling and meeting people was always a passion of hers. Lowell and Marie traveled to Norway, Alaska, Montana, Oregon, Iowa, Florida and the New England states, Panama Canal, plus numerous road trips in their RVs throughout the Pacific Northwest and Canada. Although soft spoken, Marie had a strong faith. She loved her church and her Lord Jesus Christ, often leading grace at the dinner table in Norwegian. During her illness Marie longed for heaven listening to hymns, including her favorite How Great though Art. Marie always put the needs of her family and others ahead of hers. She never missed sending a birthday or anniversary gift to her children, their spouses or grandkids. She loved shopping for others and always gave the perfect gift. She had an amazing filing system with a 3X5 card for what seemed like each person she had ever met. On that card were special notes for that person listing birthdays, anniversaries, names of their kids and their friends, pets, hobbies, interests, surgeries, etc., basically and encyclopedia of information. During her illness, Marie mentioned she longed to go shopping (what could Mom possibly need) so the question was asked.shopping for what? Her response..for others. That was a testimony to Marie; she was generous beyond words, continually focused on others. Marie loved meeting new friends and welcomed people into their home, always offering a homemade treat. In addition to being a thoughtful and caring mother, she also worked out of the home for over 20 years doing accounting work for Evergreen State college, Washington State Liquor Control Board and Washington State Department of Labor and industries. She retired in 1988. She was a member of Evergreen Christian Community for many years and also was a golden member of the Sons of Norway. A Celebration of Life service remembering Marie will be held at Evergreen Christian Community on , 11, 2015 at 11:00 am. Donations on behalf of Marie can be made to Evergreen Christian Community or your local Salvation Army. |

Obituary: Marguerite Karin Lee Anderson, a past resident of Issaquah and High Point, passed away on , 21, 2015, at Ruthaven Senior in Covington. She was two days shy of her 98th birthday. Marguerite was born 23, 1917, in Seattle to Thomas and Edith Lee. Her youth was spent in High Point and Issaquah living with her father who was a mill worker and logger in both of those communities. She graduated from Issaquah High School in 1935. high school, she attended a business college in Seattle. She learned skills that enabled her to work in various secretarial jobs in the Seattle area. At the age of 24 she felt called to go to Alaska to serve in a childrens home in au. On arrival, she learned of a very ill baby boy that was left at the hospital. The child was not expected to live, and Marguerite decided she should be the one to bring that child back to health. She petitioned the court to adopt the baby. In those days it was unheard of for a single woman to adopt a child, but the court allowed it as the prospects for the child were otherwise dismal, at best. She nursed him back to health and took him with her when she returned to Issaquah in 1943. This story speaks volumes about Marguerites empathy and will. She decided what she wanted to do, and there was no stopping her. While in Alaska war broke out. She needed money to start her own childrens home, so she landed a job working as a secretary for General Simon Bolivar Buckner, in charge of the military operation in Alaska. She married Arnold Olaf Anderson of Tacoma on 15, 1943. settled on property owned by Marguerites father, Thomas Lee, on Issaquah Creek. raised four children in Issaquah until 1962 when the family moved to Auburn to be closer to Auburn Adventist Academy, where the couple desired schooling for their children, and from which all four graduated. Her longest employment tenure was with the Boeing where she worked as a secretary and accountant. She retired from Boeing in 1984 after 17 years with the company. She was particularly fond of her time on the Lunar Rover program. The Rover was sent to the moon and traveled its surface in 1971. retirement she turned her attentions to community service and mission trips. She was director of the Auburn Community Service for many years (a ministry of the Auburn Seventh-Day Adventist Church). She traveled to 67 countries, mostly mission trips with her church senior group known as SAGE. On those trips she helped the team build homes, schools and churches on four continents. She was active in the Sons of Norway for many decades, and was awarded Norwegian of the Year in 1997 by the Vesterdalen Lodge of Auburn. She was skilled in the making of lefse (a Norwegian flatbread). She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Arnold, who died in 2005. She was also preceded in death by her adopted son, David. Survivors include loving children Karen Weismiller of Covington, Thomas and Christina Anderson of Issaquah, and Daniel and Wendy Anderson of Fairbanks, Alaska; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A celebration of Marguerites life will be held on 20 at 2:00 PM at the Auburn Seventh-day Adventist Church. Private interment will be held at Mountain View of Auburn. |
