Obituary: Mary Hodnett Alexander, 80, a resident of Harrisonburg passed away on , 22, 2016 at Sunnyside Retirement Community. She was born in Alexander City, AL, on 29, 1936 and was the daughter of the late r Gaines and Gertie Lee Thomas Hodnett. Mary graduated from Benjamin Russell High School in Alexander City, AL and was a homemaker. In her early years, she was employed with the Turkish Embassy and the FBI. She attended Port Republic United Methodist Church and was a member of the ladies bridge club. Mary was a loving mother and aunt, an avid gardener and enjoyed canning her own vegetables and loved spoiling her grandchildren. On 25, 1959 she married, Dr. Robert Bowman Alexander, who preceded her in death on 7, 1991. She is survived by a son, Robert Stephen Alexander and wife, Lisa, of Riva, Md., a daughter, Stephanie A. Berry and husband, Guylan, of Madison, Va., twin grandchildren, Zachary and Jenna Alexander, and granddaughter Alexis Berry; a twin brother, Cary Hodnett of Chattanooga, Tn., and a number of nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Harold and Paul Hodnett and a sister, Wanda Carson. A funeral service will be at Lindsey in Harrisonburg on , 26, 2016 at 2:00 pm, with Rev. Carl Ripley officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 prior to the service. Burial will be at Port Republic . The casket will be closed. Obituary: ALEXANDER, Mary Nystrom, 93, of Richmond, passed away 15, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Edwin C. Alexander, daughter, Debbie A. Smith, brother Sten T. Nystrom Jr. and sister Hilda N. Fulton. She is survived by her daughter Marcia A. Anderson (Danny); son Douglas E. Alexander (Susan); grandchildren, Kellie, Michael, Katherine and Andrew Smith, Elizabeth Alexander Preskitt (Nick) and Matthew Alexander; and son-in-law, Charles Rusty Smith. She was the daughter of Sten T. and Mary T. Nystrom. Mary graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and was an employee of C&P Telephone Co. She loved beautiful flowers and gardening and was active in the Ridgecrest Garden Club. Some of her other hobbies included square dancing, playing bridge, sewing, reading, and exercise. Mary was a long time faithful member of Monument Heights Baptist Church. She was the world's greatest mother and was devoted to her children and grandchildren. Mary resided at Lakewood Manor for 8 years and the family would like to thank the Lakewood staff for the excellent care they provided. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm , 20, 2015 at the Parham Chapel, Woody , 1771 N. Parham Rd., where her funeral service will be held 11 am 21, 2015. Obituary: Chesapeake- Marcella Alexander, 90, (fondly known as Nanny and Mama ) passed on to her Heavenly home on , Aug. 12, 2014. She was born Feb. 4, 1924 in Beloit, WI to George and Minnie Markley. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Benjamin Gerald Alexander, and her eight brothers and sisters as well as many of her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Patricia Sulick of Virginia Beach, Judy Kirk and husband Bobby of Franklin, VA; Gerry Sessor and husband Chuck of Virginia Beach, and Benjamin Alexander Jr. and wife Alison of Branson, MO. She enjoyed a wonderful life surrounded by her children, 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. She was an active member of Atlantic Shores Baptist Church and was especially fond of her School Class, the Pathfinders, led by Gary Bennett. Through the years her church family had become very important to her. She was also an avid yard sale shopper with her best friend, Mary Zobrill. loved having someone with a need they could shop for. The family will receive friends starting at 10:00 a.m. , Aug. 15 at Rosewood-Kellum at 601 N. Witchduck Rd., Virginia Beach with a service starting at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Pastor Ken Lamberson followed by a luncheon. Marcella had a great love for animals especially her little dogs. Obituary: Lindy Crawford Alexander, 88, a lifelong resident of Mt. Sidney, passed away on , 10, 2017. He was born on May 22, 1928 and was the son of the late John Robert and Edna Young Alexander. Lindy graduated from North River High School in 1947 and served in the US Army. He was a lifelong member of the Salem Lutheran Church and had been employed with C & P Telephone for 37 ½ years before retiring. Lindy enjoyed volunteering at Salem Lutheran Church and in the community for many people. He was devoted to his family and friends and was a devoted son to the Lord, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and an Uncle Lindy to everyone. On 28, 1951 he married the former Sharon Wine, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Cheryl Burns and husband, Tommy, of Waynesboro, Lora Dury and husband, Bill, of Mt. Sidney; a son, Danny Alexander and wife, Linda, of Waynesboro; four grandchildren, Katie and Lucas Burns, Lindsay Combs and Nick Alexander; three great-grandchildren, Ben and Noah Alexander, and Makenna Crookshanks; one brother, Nelson Alexander; a special son, Mark Hall; his buddy and best friend, Ralph Mezzoni; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Frances Christian, Stanley, Joe, Paul, Edwin and Roscoe Alexander. The family will receive friends , 17, 2017 at Lindsey in Weyers Cave from 6:00-8:00 pm. Following a private burial a memorial service will be held , 18, 2017 at Salem Lutheran Church at 2:00 pm, with Pastor Derek Boggs officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Salem Lutheran Church, 417 Salem Church Rd., Mt. Sidney, VA 24467.
