Obituary: Art Allen died 14, 2012, in Red Bluffs, California, leaving a legacy of love and a lifetime of service. He was born 15, 1924, in Bismarck, North Dakota, to Chester A. Allen Sr. and Helen (Nellie) Frances Pelton. He was the second of six children. When he was 4 years old, his family moved to Laramie, Wyoming. In Laramie, he graduated from high school and attended the University of Wyoming. He earned his Bachelors in Physical Education and Math, and a Masters in Education Administration. He served in the Army during WWII. He married Ruth Katie Kathleen Spicer, on May 28, 1953. Katie and Art both shared a great love for teaching. He worked in public education where he served as a Teacher, Coach and Administrator for over 30 years. He taught school in Wyoming, Alaska and California. While living in Alaska, Art joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He quietly and faithfully served in numerous church callings the remainder of his life. He influenced many people with his humble, but firm testimony. He retired to Lindon, Utah and resided the last 5 years of his life in Chico, California. Having survived both the great depression, as a child, and the struggles of WWII, he was a tireless worker who provided love and service to his family, friends, neighbors, and countless others. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Kathleen Spicer, his daughter Geri Clements, his sons Edward and Douglas, his brothers Ethan and Don and his sister Bertha Ward. He has 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grand children. He is preceded in death by his brothers Clark and Samuel. services will be , 18, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Lindon 5th Ward Chapel, 610 West 100 South, Lindon, Utah. Obituary: A. Lester Allen returned to his heavenly home 4, 2014. He was born 24, 1923 in Los Angeles to Charles Ashael and Ida Lillywhite Allen. Lester was raised in Los Angeles and graduated from Eagle Rock High School in 1941. He met his best friend and eternal companion, Marilyn Murphy, and they were married in the Mesa Arizona Temple on 29, 1943. Lester was commissioned an officer in the Army Air Corp and served during World War II in the Panama Canal Zone. the war, he graduated with a PhD from UCLA and taught at Orange Coast in Costa Mesa, California. In 1954 he was hired by BYU and worked there as a faculty member for 35 years; excelling as a research scientist, teacher and administrator. During his tenure he served as chairman of the Zoology department, and as Dean of the of Biological & Agricultural Sciences. Dr. Allen was revered by his colleagues and loved and respected by the thousands of students he taught. Lester and Marilyn moved to Orem in 1955 where they raised their family and developed many close friendships over the years. were blessed with eleven children, all of whom are still living; Katie McCarty (Gordon Jennings), Christy (Chuck) Ackerson, Charley (Suzy) Allen, Ben (Monica) Allen, Jane (Joe) Quinn, Andy (Renae) Allen, Nancy (Bruce) Tregaskis, Barbara Allen, Richard (Jeanne) Allen, Bonnie (Curt) James and Mark (Kate) Allen. Lester was preceded in death by his beloved wife, two sisters (Donetta, Elma) and one brother (George). He is survived by 51 grandchildren, 120 great-grandchildren, and a total posterity that currently numbers 238. Lester was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings. He was called three times as a bishop, and served missions with Marilyn as his companion to London, Mississippi, and Baltimore. He also served at the Seniors MTC and in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple. His greatest legacy was his great kindness, and love for all of Gods children. He was meek and gentle, a true disciple of Christ. Lester was a man ahead of his time. As an equal partner with Marilyn he nurtured children, scrubbed floors and even cooked for their large family, rare activities for men of his generation. Both Lester and Marilyn had a great love of the outdoors, and spent many outings together in the mountains of Utah camping, fishing, hiking, hunting and snowshoeing. Lester taught his posterity and many others the wonders of nature and an appreciation for Gods creations. He had a great love for classical music, fine arts, and sports. Lester spent many hours reading, and especially loved studying the scriptures with Marilyn. He had a singular come home whistle, a unique way of communicating with babies and was known for his infectious and warm smile. Thanks and appreciation to the caregivers and family members who lovingly cared for dad these past few years so he could live in his home. services will be , 10, at the Orchard Stake , 800 East 600 North, Orem at 11:00 am, with a viewing prior to the funeral from 10:00 to10:45 am.
