Obituary: Agness Arnold born 17, 1920 and died on 12, 2016 having lived 95 years, 10 months and 26 days. Services for Mrs. Arnold were 15, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Park Height Church of Christ in Hamilton, Texas and graveside services were at 2:00 p.m. in Sundown, Texas with grandsons Terry Arnold and Joel Arnwine conducting services. Agness Arnold (Minnie Agness Lorene Widner) lived a long and productive life. She was born in Red River , Texas out in the country-side, at the little community of Madris, just north east of Clarksville, to Robert Edward and Minnie Swarts Widner. Her siblings, who were nearly grown, were given the privilege of naming her, thus the three given names instead of the usual two. When she was seven she moved from Vernon to the wilds of Cochran just outside of Whiteface. It was a wonderland for the little tomboy but not so much for her mom who had left a new home and new furniture and indoor plumbing for a farmhouse with dirt floors. Agness began and finished her schooling at Whiteface Schools. Her parents wouldn't let her go to college or beauty school so when Clarence Arnold came calling they eloped three months later. were married 63 years. Agness was blessed with two children, Leonard Don Arnold of Hamilton and Beverly Jayne and husband Tommy Arnwine of Sonora; seven grandchildren, Terry Don Arnold and wife Carolyn of Mexia, Derinda and husband, Adrian deJong of Alvin, Todd Arnold of Hamilton, Shannon Arnwine and wife Lorie of Savannah, Georgia, Shane Arnwine and wife, Karen of San Antonio, Kenneth Arnwine of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Joel Arnwine and wife, Mary of San Antonio, 11 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by brother-in-law Bill and sister-in-law Alice Arnold of Odessa, and one step-brother, Conway Wood of Albuquerque, NM. Agness made friends easily and had a great love for others. She truly had a servants heart. Agness was a very talented woman and while living on the oil lease used her musical talent to play the piano for a country band made up of neighbors. played live on the local radio station, KLVT in Levelland. She was active in Demonstration Club and the Boy Scouts. She took and taught First Aid Classes and would have been an EMT if there had been such a thing in her day. When Beverly turned 9, Agness got her started in 4-H and worked tirelessly to build an award winning group of girls who called themselves the Roughettes. Many a little Sundown girl learned the basics of cooking and sewing from her able instructions. She had two Gold Star members and she was awarded with an Outstanding Leader Award. When those days were over she joined the Sundown Garden Club. She held every office and participated in all of the flower shows winning many Sweepstakes and Best of Show Awards. She also took oil painting classes and completed beautiful paintings that grace the homes of her children and friends. She loved to cook and delighted in creating new recipes and improving on others. Retirement days brought the traveling bug. Agness and Clarence spent 20 years traveling from rally to rally around the South with Good Sam and the Silver Streak Trailer Clubs. Clarence died in 2002. For the last 8 years Agness was a resident of Dove Hill Assisted in Hamilton. Agness was an active member of Park Street Church of Christ in Sundown, Tanglewood Church of Christ in Odessa and Park Height Church of Christ in Hamilton.
