Obituary: Jimmie Lou Smith Argo, "Mamaw" too many, "GiGi" to Randy and Karis, Mamaw was born on May 10, 1920 in Spring Place, Georgia and passed into God's hands and into the arms of the awaiting love of her life, Harlan F. Argo, on 8, 2014, at her home in Conroe, Texas with her hand being held by her daughter Marie Wilcoxson. Mamaw lived in Texas for the past 65 years but she was always a Georgia Peach at heart, frequently returning to her home roots in Spring Place, Georgia. Mamaw loved her home town where she returned every year to attend the Murray High School homecoming and the annual family reunion. Mamaw never drove a car so she was often driven to her reunions by her loving husband "Booda"; after Booda passed away she was driven by her very special friend Hank Dahncke. To all of us the name MAMAW=LOVE. Mamaw loved her family fiercely and was always there when needed no matter day or night. Mamaw was always so proud of her daughter Marie, she spoiled her grandkids rotten and she attended every football game, soccer game, dance recital and birthday party for her great grand kids. She attended her last family function on 2, 2014, which was a birthday party for Karis; sitting patiently in the heat with screaming kids, a bouncy house, waterslide and cake. She always attended these functions with a smile on her face and love in her eyes. She was many things to many people, some of her more popular titles were Mother, Momma Nan, Mamaw, Gigi, Aunt Jim, or Friend, but to us she was comfort, she was caring, she was warmth, she was wisdom, she was safety. She was everything you could ever imagine a mother, grandmother, great grandmother or aunt to be. Mamaw loved to have "pizza" nights at her house for her great grandkids and when her step great grandson Ricky was in town and she was able to she would have spaghetti night for him. Mamaw loved her pets. When she and Booda had the drive in theatre in Conroe stray dogs and cats frequently made their way to Mamaw's house and she always took them in. We would often joke that she had an invisible sign over her house that only animals can read that said "free room and board". Mamaw loved to garden and she had an exceptional green thumb. We all marveled at her ability to grow huge beautiful roses. Everyone enjoyed swapping cuttings with her, family and friends. Mamaw also loved to can. She was famous for her pear butter, pear preserves and apple rings. Everyone looked forward to Christmas time in the hopes that Mamaw would be handing out her canned goods as gifts. That was always a special treat. Mamaw was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Harlan F Argo, her parents and five siblings. She is survived by her daughter and son in law Marie and Gene Wilcoxson, her grandchildren Melissa and Richard Mills, Rachel and AJ Downs of Conroe and Kristi and Rocky Beard of New Waverly, great grandchildren Randall Wade Mills, Karis Addison Downs, Ashley and James Payne, Kassie Bullpit of Conroe and Ricky Mills of Michigan Special niece and honorary granddaughter Stacy McKeel Daniell, of Villa Rica, Georgia, special loved friends Richard Jones, Hank Dahncke, Chris Feist, Madysen Feist and Hayden Feist. Mamaw is also survived by many loved nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Services will be held at Cashner Colonial Chapel, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, TX 77303. Visitation will be held , 15, 2014, from 5:00-8:00 pm. A Celebration of Life service will be held , 16, 2014, at 10:00 am. Entombment will follow at Garden Park . Pallbearers will be The pallbearers serving are Chuck Smith, Carl Hogan, Rusty Hogan, Gene Wilcoxson, AJ Downs, Richard Mills, Wayne Russell and Richard Jones. Honorary Pallbearers are Randy Mills, Karis Downs and Hank Dahncke. Due to Mamaws and other family members battles with cancer, in lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 in her name.
