Obituary: ÂTo live in the memory of others is not to dieÂ. Dan T. Anthony, born 6, 1920, left this world to be with the angels , 30, 2001. In his 81 life-filled years, Dan touched many in a way that expressed his love for all. He will live on in the memories of family, friends and many others. Born in San Antonio, Texas, to Tom and Fotini Anthony, Dan attended high school in Athens, Greece. He returned to San Antonio and attended St. MaryÂs University and the University of Texas at Austin before graduating from Texas A & M University. graduation, Dan served his country during World War II in a reconnaissance troop of the Mechanized Cavalry, Third Army. the war, Dan followed his fatherÂs footsteps and joined him at the Manhattan Café, a San Antonio landmark dining spot on Houston Street, home to many from 1912 to 1978. As a continuation of his passion for the restaurant industry, Dan partnered with one of his favorite customers, Henry Reed. Together, they opened the first of many Sea Island Shrimp House restaurants in 1965. Sea IslandÂs success was followed by another joint venture Â- the Old San Francisco Steak House, which he and Reed opened in 1978. Dan also opened and operated other San Antonio dining favorites including AnthonyÂs, two Little Taco Factory and two Little Fish Factory restaurants. For his numerous contributions to the restaurant industry in San Antonio and in Texas, the Texas Restaurant Association honored Dan as Restaurateur of the Year for 2000. Dan was also appointed as an ARCON, a high honor reserved for those members of the Greek Orthodox Church whose service, dedication and support of the Faith as been exemplary. His community service also was represented through his participation in the Order of AHEPA, the Greek menÂs service organization to which he belonged for over 50 years. He also served two terms as president of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, where his father was a founding parishioner 75 years ago. In addition to his restaurant life, Dan was active in raising his family and caring for his church Â- his two greatest joys. He has influenced both beyond words. Dan is succeeded by his loving wife of 39 years, Chrissy; daughters, Tina Weiner and husband, Brian, Denise Soodhalter and husband, Charles, Madeline Kazzaz and husband, Nabil, and Lisa Alexander and husband, Doug. He also leaves three sons, Tom Anthony and wife, Ruth, Nick Anthony and wife, Amber, and Barclay Anthony and wife, Kristi.; sister, Maggie Flannery and husband, Bill. His first wife, Lila Belle, with whom he brought five of these children into the world preceded Dan in death, while his legacy lives on through 13 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and 3 nieces.
