Obituary: Katie Maxine Price Amstutz (May 22, 1925 - 1, 2016) passed away at Christian 's Manzer House in Mesquite, Texas at the age of 90, surrounded by family members Stan and Anne on afternoon, 1st . Maxine was a loving wife to Stanley Amstutz and dedicated mother to her daughters Gloria Amstutz White (Dr. Jackson B. Pickett III), Anne Amstutz Sotack (Major James N. Sotack, Jr.), and Amy Amstutz Claxton (Dr. David F. Claxton); grandmother to Jessica Alice White (Dr. Brian T. Arneson), Travis White (Karen Way White), Benjamin Claxton, Christina Maxine Claxton, and James Claxton; and great-grandmother to Edward Harrison White. She is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, Stanley Hugh Amstutz, her sisters Wanda Cavitt (Bobby Dan Cavitt) and Patsy Armstrong (A.J. Armstrong), her brother, E.B. Price, Jr. (Billie Lou Price), and sister-in-law Myrna Amstutz Bauman (Steve Bauman). She was predeceased by her sisters Dorothy Price, Kathryn Price Andrews (Edwin Andrews), Roselle Price Shelby (Bill H. Shelby), sisters-in-law Louise Amstutz Thibodeaux Edlen (Dave Edlen) and Ruth Annette Amstutz Stahly (Dan Stahly), and son-in-law James N. Sotack, Jr. Maxine was born in Granbury, Texas on May 22, 1925 to Ernest Blanton Price and Alice Merrill Price, the third of six daughters and one son. graduation from Granbury High School, she attended the University of Texas at Austin, earning her bachelor's degree in home economics in 1946. She began her career teaching in the Austin Public Schools from 1946-48, continued teaching in the Indiana Public Schools in l948-49, and served in a variety of roles (including dietician, home economic teacher, science teacher, and teacher for homebound students) for the Richardson, TX public schools from 1953-1987. During this time she also earned a Master's of Liberal Arts from Southern Methodist University; in addition, she was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Granbury, TX, the University Church of Christ in Austin, and in Dallas the congregations at Shamrock Shores, Garland Road, Highland Oaks, and later Christian . In her retirement, she served as a Hospital Volunteer for Doctors Hospital in Garland, TX for over a decade. Maxine was an exemplary role model for her daughters (and all of her many students) in how to manage time, effort, and resources; she worked full-time as a professional educator while also raising her children, and in addition, always made time to prepare home-cooked meals, sew and tailor clothing for the girls, and entertain graciously in her home. Her family remembers fondly and with appreciation her frequent admonitions----also know as "Maxine-isms" by her daughters---which call forth one's best efforts at all times, and which remind us of the importance of not wasting resources of any kind! Maxine was also a world traveler, along with her husband Stanley, from the 1950s until 2014, visiting hundreds of countries on all of the seven continents, and returning frequently to Caribbean locations for family reunions in recent years. Her family wishes to thank the staff and medical team of Manzer House for the compassionate care during her final months. |

Obituary: Grace (Kit) Amstead was born in Los Angeles, California on 13, 1924, the youngest of three children of Clarence E. and Barbara K. Brumfield. Her nickname then was Cookie. In 1944 she graduated from the UCLA with a major in business. Kit loved sports and was a very good tennis player. She also had an active social life consistent with her gregarious and gracious personality. While at UCLA, Kit met and fell in love with a pre-med student, Andrew L. Tucker. married in 1945, got the nickname Kit, and raised three children (Thomas, Timothy, and Kathleen). Early in their marriage Dr. Tucker joined the United States Air Force. lived in California, Houston, and England. Kit was a whirlwind of activity: raising the children, active in their local church and Southern Baptist Associations, and even earning a graduate degree from the UC Davis. moving to Riverside where Dr. Tucker established his medical practice, Kit served as the State Girls Auxiliary Director for the California Southern Baptist Convention, and President of the Riverside Medical Auxiliary. taught college students at their church for years. Their Riverside backyard and pool was the scene of many memorable parties and get-togethers for church and medical friends, all under the skilled organization of Kit. enjoyed travelling the world, often for Andrews medical meetings. The unexpected passing of their son Timothy at age 20 was extremely difficult for them. In 1984 Kit was widowed after Andrew lost his battle with cancer. Through these trials, Kit showed care, compassion, and dependence on God that was typical of the way she walked in faith. She poured herself into other service - working as the hostess to the President of California Baptist University - and grandmothering her seven grandchildren. In 2002 she moved to The Summit in Austin to be closer to her children. Little did she know what God had planned for her in Austin! That plan was Dr. Billy Amstead. Kit and Bill hit it off quickly, and on Thanksgiving weekend 2003 they were married. Love and marriage at age 79 was a wonderful gift of God! shared much together - companionship, conversation, travels throughout the United States and Europe - all the while showing a deep love for each other and a partnership in compassion and assistance to their many friends at The Summit. These last years have been happy ones, a gift from God to Kit and Bill - and their grateful families. Kit is survived by her husband Dr. Billy Amstead; son Thomas (and wife Diana) of Houston, daughter Kathleen (and husband Larry) of Austin, stepson William Amstead (and wife Barbara), and stepdaughter Barbara Pennington (and husband Mickey). Kit loved her seven grandchildren (Lesley, Lauren, Timothy, Peter, Alissa, Andrew, and Austin) and four great-grandchildren (Michael, Jonathan, Drake, and Luke). In recent years Kit and the family were blessed with the love and sacrifice of the staff and many friends at The Summit, and especially the incredible care given by Lorena Jara-Ranno, Adriana Jara, Roxanne Jara-Arevalo, and Mary Lou Rocha. Kit was devoted to her family and serving the Lord Jesus Christ through her generosity to many ministries. The light of Christ shone through her to the praise of the Father in Heaven (Matthew 5:26). Her favorite Bible verse for life was Proverbs 3: 5, 6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. Obituary: Ella Mae Amstead, 86 of Georgetown, Texas passed away on , 9, 2015. She was born 16, 1929 in Austin, Texas to Thomas and Beulah Helton as the seventh of eight children. Ella grew up on the family farm on Yeager Ln. in the Dessau community. She graduated from Manor High School in 1946 at the age of 16. Ella was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Laurence Amstead, Jr. her parents and 5 sisters and 2 brothers. Ella is survived by her sons Larry (Laura); Mike (Pam); 3 grandchildren, Danica (Glenn), Justin (Chelsea), and Jared (Alyssa), 4 great-grandchildren Kyelee and Bailee Wheat, Xander, and Rhylan Amstead. Ella was a wonderful Mother and "Nana" and always put her family first. She was a loving caring Christian woman who touched many lives. Ellas hobbies included sewing, canning, gardening, playing Skip-Bo and Dominos with her grandchildren. Ella enjoyed helping Larry with woodworking projects. "Nana" cooked the best meals which included sweet tea and fresh baked cookies as some of the family's favorites. Obituary: Dr. Marcel Amstalden of Station, TX passed away 3, 2014 as a result of a motor vehicle accident while traveling on official business near Hallettsville, TX. Visitation is scheduled for 10th from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Memorial Chapel in Bryan. Memorial Services will follow at 1:00 P.M. at Memorial Chapel in Bryan. Marcel was born 9, 1970 in Marilia, São Paulo, Brazil to Francisco and Beatriz Lex Amstalden. He grew up in Assis, São Paulo where he was involved with his familys business and cattle operation. In 1992, Marcel graduated from the Universidade Estadual Paulista, Botucatu, São Paulo, Brazil with a Degree in Veterinary Medicine. From 1992 to 1997, Marcel practiced herd health and reproductive management of beef cattle and horses in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. From 1995-1997 he worked for the São Bernardo Veterinary Clinic in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil practicing large animal medicine and surgery. From 1998-2003, Marcel served as a Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant in the Texas A&M Physiology of Reproduction graduate program and was awarded M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in 2000 and 2003, respectively. Marcel conducted his award-winning graduate research at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research station in Beeville, TX under the direction of his mentor, close friend and collaborator Dr. Gary Williams. Upon graduation from TAMU, Dr. Amstalden was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Neuroendocrinology at the University of Cincinnatis of Medicine in Cincinnati, Ohio. Marcel was a Visiting Professor at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil during 2006 before accepting a position as an Assistant Professor in Physiology of Reproduction in TAMUs Department of Animal Science. In 2012 Marcel was awarded tenure and promoted to the rank of Associate Professor, a position he held at the time of his death. In addition, Marcel held an Adjunct appointment in the Department of Veterinary Integrative Biosciences in TAMUs of Veterinary Medicine. Marcel was active in TAMUs Interdisciplinary Faculty of Neuroscience and he also was serving as 2013-2015 Chair of TAMUs Interdisciplinary Faculty of Reproductive Biology. Dr. Amstalden co-instructed a graduate reproductive biology course and he was the lead professor for the ANSC 434 Animal Reproduction Management course. Marcel was a caring, highly effective instructor of undergraduate, graduate and veterinary students. Marcels impact is evident by the significant awards acquired by students that he mentored. Marcel was recognized by reproductive physiologists and neuroendocrinologists across the world for his unique research that determined how neural and nutritional factors affect onset of puberty and cyclicity in female animals. Marcels work was relevant to human reproductive health and was of biologic and economic significance. In recent years Marcel was an invited speaker at major conferences across the U.S. and other countries (i.e., he recently spoke at conferences in Australia and Japan). Obituary: Carrie Sue Amsden passed away at the age of 66 on 24 at her home in New Braunfels, Texas. Carrie was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on 26, 1944, to Edwin William Mueller and Ella Nora Mueller. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Arnold Mueller of Newport News, Virginia, and her son-in-law Randy Vetter of New Braunfels. As a school teacher for nearly four decades, Carrie touched the lives of thousands of students at Calallen Middle School in Corpus Christi and at St.Pius X Catholic School in San Antonio. She was a passionate volunteer for the American Cancer Societys Relay For Life and dedicated member of Peace Lutheran Church. Carrie is survived by her son Brian Amsden of Hallettsville, daughter Cynthia Vetter of New Braunfels, daughter-in-law Amy Amsden, son-in-law Rick Bryant, grandchildren Preston Amsden, Ella Amsden, Jack Amsden, Robert Vetter, and her brother Charles Mueller of Bandera. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. at the Zoeller , with the family present from 6-8 p.m. to greet friends. services will be , 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Zoeller chapel.
