Obituary: The Rev. James Krammer (Jim) Alcorn died on 11, 2017. He was born 24, 1942 in Washington, D.C., to James A. Alcorn and Frances K. Alcorn. He graduated from Trinity University (B.S.) And the University of the South (M.Div). He was ordained an Episcopal priest in 1971 and served at Christ Church, San Antonio, West Texas Episcopal High School, Epiphany, Kingsville and Epiphany, Houston. For many years he was the Director of Pastoral and Education at St. Lukes Episcopal Hospital, retiring in 2005. He then served as chaplain to the retired clergy.

In high school he played football and baseball, was editor of the newspaper and yearbook and President of the student body. In college he helped found Chi Delta Tau while serving as dorm proctor. college he served as President of Alcorn Food Brokerage, in Washington, D.C., before entering seminary.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bob and sister Nancy. He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn Haugen and husband Ben, and his son James Martin Alcorn and wife Sarah. Grandchildren, James Bailey Alcorn and Katherine Brooke Alcorn.

He was a father, grandfather and priest-faithful and caring in all things.

Jim showed in every minute of every day that unconditional love is real.

A memorial Service will be held , 11:00a.m. 25th, at Epiphany Episcopal Church 9600 S. Gessner Houston, TX. 77071

Obituary: Dorothy Jean Walston Alcorn, higher education advocate and community leader, died at her home in Victoria on , 26, 2017.
Mrs. Alcorn was born in Houston, Texas on 24, 1931 to Virgil Alfred Walston and Dorothy Darden Walston. She is predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Charles W. "Chuck" Alcorn, Jr., her brother, Virgil Walston and her parents. She is survived by her sister, Sally Walston Doehring of Houston, three children: Dorothy Anne Henderson and husband James of Galveston; Lexey Elizabeth Wright and husband Richard of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Charles W. Alcorn, III and wife Angela of Houston; grandchildren Gage Sterling Fender of Houston, Katilee Martin Fender of Santa Fe, NM; Dorothy Claire Henderson of San Antonio, Holly Marie Henderson of Galveston; Charles Wagner Alcorn of Houston and William Duer Alcorn of Houston.
Her father was a civil engineer with Humble Oil and Dorothy Jean and her younger brother and sister grew up in several oil-related locations including Willis, Texas; Midland, Texas and New Orleans, Louisiana. graduating from Midland High School, Dorothy attended Baylor University and the University of Texas at Austin. She later attended the University of Houston where she received a BA in English/Education in 1952. She married Chuck later that year and moved to Abilene, Texas where Chuck was a geologist for Warren Petroleum and Dorothy taught third grade for three years for Abilene ISD. two job-related moves to Midland and Andrews, Gulf Oil transferred Chuck and Dorothy to Victoria in 1961 where they happily resided for the rest of their lives.
earning her MAIS degree in English Literature/Creative Writing in 1986 from the University of Houston-Victoria, Texas Governor William Clements appointed her a member of the University of Houston System Board of Regents, serving from from 1987-'93 (Secretary '88-'93). She was the first UHS Regent appointed from Victoria. While she was a Regent, she served as Chair of the Facilities and Planning Committee and supervised the renovation of the Wortham House, home of the Chancellor of the University of Houston. In 2015, Mrs. Alcorn gifted her home in the gated community of Hidden Meadows to the University of Houston-Victoria, where it will serve as the residence of the President of the University of Houston-Victoria.
Alcorn was a long-time member of the UHV President's Advisory Board and sat on three UHV President's Search Committees. She hosted the first UHV/ABR Reading Series reception for Graciela Limon in 2006 as well as UHV's 10th anniversary Margin for Excellence Campaign and numerous functions in support of UHV's higher education mission. Mrs. Alcorn received UHV's highest honor, the Presidential Medal, in 1994. Dorothy Alcorn Auditorium, home to the UHV/ABR Reading Series, was named in her honor in 1993.
In addition to her support of higher education in the Coastal Bend, Mrs. Alcorn served as President of the Victoria Junior League and was voted Sustainer of the Year. In 1994, she was voted South Texas Woman of the Year for her tireless efforts on behalf of the community including chairing the Victoria Courthouse Renovation Committee and the Proctor-O'Connor Building Renovation Committee as well as serving on the Victoria Performing Arts Steering Committee. She also served ably on the Victoria Airport Commission, the Brownson Board, Guadalupe Victoria Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Victoria Court of Six Flags, the Victoria Symphony, the board of DeTar Hospital and as an Elder of The Session at First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Alcorn was a passionate life-long reader and a published short story writer. She greatly enjoyed art and music. She enjoyed gardening, photography, and was an enthusiastic breeder of Jack Russell terriers. Dorothy's greatest love was travel with family and friends to destinations far and wide.
The family is eternally grateful for the care, compassion and love shown to her by long-time companions Patty Schroeter, Diana Hinojosa and Alex and Frank Garcia. We are also grateful for the legion of compassionate nurses and doctors including Dr. Larry Riedel, Dr. Fred Lykes and Hospice of South Texas who took such good care of her over the past months.
There will be a visitation at Rosewood Chapel on , 28 from 3-6pm. Dorothy's funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on , 1 at 11 am with service music beginning at 10:15am. Burial will immediately follow at Memorial Park .
Pallbearers for Mrs. Alcorn are: George Alcorn, Sr. Charles W. Alcorn, III, Charles Wagner Alcorn, William Alcorn, Gage Fender, James Henderson and Richard Wright.

Obituary: Captain Charles Alexander Alcorn of Coppell, formerly of Houston, passed away on 18, 2015. He was born on Dec 29, 1924 in Philadelphia, Pa. to David Alcorn and Emily Stewart. Charles had two brothers, David Stewart Alcorn and Samuel Alcorn and a sister, Margaret Sarah Alcorn.

He entered college as an accounting student at the University of Pennsylvania but World War II changed his plans. At the urging of his brother, David, he entered Kings Point Maritime Academy at Kings Point New York. The Navy, being short of sailors for WWII, called his entire class of mid-shipmen into service. He served as an ensign and saw service at D-Day aboard a Liberty Ship.

the war, he saw service in the merchant marine, progressing up to first mate of the SS Independence. He then made Captain and took command of his own vessel. His career plans were changed again by his marriage in 1958. At the urging of his bride, he then "retired" from active sea duty and took a job with McGrath Corporation in the stevedoring industry. In 1968, he accepted a promotion to become vice-president and general manager of the Atlantic & Gulf Stevedores at the Port of Houston. He also served as president of the National Maritime Safety Association working with OSHA to make the shipping industry safer. He also served as Director and later as Chairman of the West Gulf Maritime Association and was involved in many maritime safety training programs. He was named an honorary Admiral of the Texas Navy by Governor of Texas for his service.

He became immersed in Republican politics after moving to Harris , serving as precinct chairman, election judge, senatorial district chairman. He served as a Texas State delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1976. He was an ardent supporter of Congressman Bill Archer and John Culberson of Houston and US Senators John Tower and Kay Bailey Hutchison and many more Republicans too numerous to mention.

In 1987, he joined the Battleship Texas Foundation and successfully managed a fundraising campaign for the first renovation of the Battleship. He was appointed Chairman of the Battleship Texas Foundation in 2005. As Chairman, he lobbied the Texas Legislature and Governor Rick Perry for more extensive funding to create the permanent berth for the Battleship. He was named Chairman Emeritus of the Battleship Texas Foundation by Harris Judge Ed Emmett just prior to moving to Coppell in 2011.

Charles married Patricia Blanche Mayer on 29, 1958 in Philadelphia. Together they had two children, Elaine Ruth and Linda Anne. He was blessed with five grandchildren, Donald Alexander Storch, Robert Benjamin Storch, Jennifer Elise Storch, Christopher Jason Mays, and Allison Nichole Mays. He also had two great grandchildren, Charles and James McMorris.

A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Coppell at 2:00PM, , 27, 2015 with Rev. Tom Palmer officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2:00PM , 28, 2015 at the Forest Park Westheimer in Houston.
