Obituary: services for Carol Clifford Cliff Akers, 90, of Tyler, are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., , 14, 2015, at Fairwood United Methodist Church with Rev. Ward Livingston officiating under the direction of Lloyd James . Masonic graveside services will be held in Cathedral in the Pines performed by Tyler Masonic Lodge #1233 who will also serve as honorary pallbearers. Cliff passed away on , 9, 2015, in Tyler. He was born on 31, 1925 in Wanette, Oklahoma to the late Horace C. and Cora Henry Aker. Cliff served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Lieutenant JG. He was released from active service in , 1946. He returned to the University of Oklahoma to complete his Chemical Engineering Degree graduating in May, 1948. He married Bobbie Berryman on May 30, 1948 in Norman, Oklahoma. He moved to Phillips, Texas to work for Phillips Petroleum in , 1948 where he retired in , 1985 after having 37 years with the company. During his time with Phillips Petroleum he worked at the refinery in Teeside, England for six years. He was Assistant Plant Manager at the refinery in Sweeney, Texas at his retirement. Cliff loved to fish at his cabin in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. He also enjoyed playing golf, woodworking and spending time with his family. Cliff was an active member of Fairwood United Methodist Church. He was a member of Unity Masonic Lodge #1242, Tyler Masonic Lodge #1233, and a 32nd Degree member of the El Paso Scottish Rite Body. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie, of 66 years; daughters, Linda Akers, of Irving, Merri Hardin and husband Randy, of Borger, Stancy Simpson and husband Elton, of Longview; son, Paul Akers and wife Wendi, of Houston; five grandchildren, Austin Akers and wife Cory, of Houston; Taylor Akers, of Dallas, Randy Hardin, Jr. and wife Kara, of Willow Park, Jennifer Cooper and husband Doug, of Borger, and Chris Simpson, of Dallas; six great-grandchildren, Kayleigh, Kelseigh, and Jonathan Hardin of Willow Park, Maegan, Wesley, and Makenna Cooper of Borger, and one on the way; sisters, Bea Roden, Pauline Hatanville and Ruthie Starks of Roxton; and brother, Larry Akers of Joshua. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Akers. Pallbearers will be Randy Hardin, Jr., Chris Simpson, Austin Akers, Dale Berryman, Doug Cooper, and Ross Wellesley. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. on , 13, 2015, at Lloyd James . In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fairwood United Methodist Church, 1712 Old Omen Road, Tyler, Texas 75701 or Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn Street, Dallas, Texas 75219. |
