Obituary: Maynard Ray ine, passed away in his sleep at home of natural causes on 12, 2015 in Sacramento, next to his beloved wife of nearly 67 years. Maynard was 94 years old. Maynard leaves behind his wife Carolyn Rose (Bowers) ine; four children; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; and many relatives and close friends. Born on 22, 1921 in Pettisville, Ohio, Maynard was the fourth born of five children. He graduated from Pettisville School in 1939. Following graduation, he worked for Sauder Manufacturing Co. until he enlisted in the Army in 1942. Maynard was stationed in the Philippines and New Guinea where he participated in the battles of New Guinea and Luzon. He served with distinction as a field hospital medic, earning numerous decorations and citations. His honors include: the American Theater Ribbon; the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars; the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star; the Good Conduct Medal; and the World War II Victory Medal. returning to the States, Maynard married Carolyn Rose Bowers on 25, 1948 in Defiance, Ohio at St. Johns Lutheran Church with Rev. Hebestreit presiding. Maynard and Carolyn had six children: Linda Irene Staley (1950); Alan Ray Butch (1952); Donald Jay DJ (1954) Mary Beth Rhine (1956); Ronnie Lee (Still born) (1958); and Charles Levern Chuck (1960). On 26, 1961, Maynard sold the family house and moved his wife and five children to Sacramento, CA. Maynard quickly found a job working for a local company building cabinets. Unsatisfied with the companys poor quality cabinets, Maynard quit his job and went to work as a civilian employee with McClellan Air Force Base. In 1962, Maynard began his career with the federal government as a sheet metal worker repairing military aircraft. During the Vietnam War, he worked on the F105 Thunderchief, receiving the Citation Award. twenty-three years of service, Maynard retired in 1985. Maynard was a devoted family man and active member of the Lutheran Church. He enjoyed bowling, woodworking, gardening, traveling and camping. Maynard especially loved playing cards with friends and family, and putting together challenging puzzles. Maynard is preceded in death by his four siblings; his oldest daughter Linda ( ine) Staley; and his son in law Richard Staley. In lieu of flowers, the family asks those who are able, to donate blood at any BloodSource Donor or blood drive. Blood donation was very important to Maynard. He donated 100 times to equal 12 1/2 gallons. The family would like to reach 100 donations to honor his memory. Please use Donor Club #0958 ine Family when you donate blood.
