Obituary: Albert Joseph Aube was carried away by the angels on 26, 2011. Born in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada on 14, 1929; the son of wealthy farmer; Albert was one of five children. His father DAssise, was born in 1900, married Marie Godard, on 16, 1921. had four boys and one girl. In one year, four of their five children died from a typhoid epidemic; which started in Montreal and spread into Ottawa; killing over two hundred children. The epidemic was thought to spread in milk products. Albert was the only child to survive. His father became ill and was placed in a long term care facility. the stock market crash in 1929; he and his mother lived in poverty. As a young boy, he was separated from his mother. He lived and worked for his uncle Moise on his farm and was displaced shortly thereafter. Alone during the depression, Albert worked for room and board and sporadically attended school. As a child, he had numerous odd jobs. He sold newspapers in the streets of the sub zero Ottawa winters. Franciscan Monks often provided food, occasional shelter, hope, education and religion. French was his native language, and at the age of 12, he learned English. the 8th grade, he left school to support himself. At 14, he went to Toronto and worked at Pauls French Food Shop where he lived in the supply room for most of the next 5 years. There he learned baking skills. By 18, he had already been a farmer, a newspaper boy, a lumber jack, a restaurant worker, a baker and a taxi driver. He was still alone and passed time going to the movies. There he met the popcorn girl. months, he mustered the courage to ask for a date. The date turned into a relationship, and at age 19, on 18, 1948; Albert Joseph Aube married Mary Rose Cardella. Initially, they lived over a dry cleaners store in Toronto. Together they had four children, Paul, Ronald, Nancy and John. In the 1950s he was reunited with his mother and four younger siblings. In 1959; he moved his family to California for a better life. He originally settled in Whittier and for the last 20 years of his life he lived in Walnut. Albert became a master baker and was in the bakery industry for 40 years. For 35 years, Albert slept split shifts for his family. He went to work at 2:30am; came home at 2pm and napped until 5pm. He would get up for dinner, spend time with the family, then back in bed by 11pm and up again at 2am. He sacrificed everything for his family. He never stopped learning. In the 1960s he attended college to be a computer programmer. He had an A- grade average. In the 1970s, while he was a baker, he became a realtor and successful real estate investor. He would buy a home, remodel it, sell it and buy another. He retired from the bakery industry in 1990, and devoted his life caring for his terminally ill wife Mary, until her passing in 1992. He then became an American citizen. He married his second wife, Ruth, in 1993, and during their 17 years of marriage they enjoyed traveling, with trips to Europe and Canada, along with visiting family. Albert never stopped working and continued to work managing properties. The day before his 80th birthday, he was honored with a high school equivalency diploma. Albert was a devout Catholic and a long time member of San Lorenzo Ruiz Catholic Church of Walnut. He also attended church with his wife Ruth at Sunset Wesleyan Church in La Puente, where he had many friends. Al will be especially remembered for his easy to please personality. He was an inspiration. He never spoke a bad word. He was embraced and loved by all who knew him. He lived the American dream. He started from tragedy and he ended his life in triumph. God rest his soul. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, children, Paul (Louise) Aube, Nancy (Mark) Porter, John (Lana) Aube, step-children, Terri Pero, Robert Layton, Cathy Thomas, fifteen grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Also survived by brother, Richard Aube and sister, Helen Tasse. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Aube and son, Ronald Aube. |
