Obituary: Karen Joquitta Annas passed away on , 18, 2016 in Fresno, California. She was born in Visalia, California on 8, 1953 to her loving parents, Jimmie and Bondareda Williams. Karen was raised and educated in Visalia and graduated from Mt. Whitney High School in 1971. She was a member of the MWHS marching band where she played the trumpet. Years later, she continued her schooling at of the Sequoias in Visalia. Karen enjoyed helping in her son and daughters classrooms as well as attending their band performances over the years. She enjoyed a multitude of activities, including woodworking, sewing, crocheting, cooking, baking, camping, and refinishing furniture. She was very creative in all aspects of her life and she enjoyed working around her home. Karen was strong willed and determined yet very caring and tender hearted about everything. She enjoyed chatting with those who were around her, sharing a joke, and making them laugh. Karen especially enjoyed time spent with her family and her dogs, Darla and Porkchop. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Karens parents, Jimmie and Bondareda, preceded her in death. She leaves behind her daughter, Alisha Dunlop and husband Mike of Fresno; her son Sean Annas of Visalia; and her sister, Janice Jacobson and husband, Randy, of Squaw Valley, CA. Obituary: Nadine Maybelle Annand, 99, of Pacific Grove passed away peacefully 9, 2012 in Pacific Grove after a brief illness. Mrs. Annand was born 21, 1912 in Oakland, California to Wheldon S. and Irene M. (Zahniser) Jones. She is survived by daughters Patricia L. Bispo and husband Roland of Coeur dAlene, Idaho, Lonnie J. Houston of Pacific Grove and Penny A. Rappa and husband Joe of San Luis Obispo, twelve Grandchildren, twenty Great-grandchildren, three Great-great grandchildren in addition to six Nieces and two Nephews. Mrs. Annand was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Alvin Alonzo Annand, a hardhat diver and longtime fixture on the Monterey waterfront. She was also preceded in death by younger sisters, Berta of Pacific Grove and Phyllis of Chatsworth, California. A graduate of University High School in Berkeley, California, in her youth she was an avid and accomplished volleyball player at Mosswood (now MacArthur) Park in Oakland. She continued her education at Sacramento Junior , receiving an Associate of Art degree, transferring to the University of California in Berkeley, majoring in English and Journalism. With her husband Al Shorty Annand and three young daughters, she relocated to Pacific Grove in 1945 becoming active in school PTA and local Girl Scout activities. This would be the beginning of a lifelong commitment to volunteering, civic involvement and journalism. For many years Mrs. Annand contributed articles to the Monterey Herald and had a regular column; Nadines Notes in the Pacific Grove Beacon and its successor, the Pacific Grove town Bulletin, supporting many Monterey Peninsula civic clubs in addition to providing updates on the lives of her family and people about town. A short list of the civic organizations she participated in represents the many passions and interests in her life. She was a founding director of the Pacific Grove Art , a 40-year volunteer at the Pacific Grove Camber of Commerce and a many year member of Altrusa, Lighthouse Keepers, Business and Professional Womens Club, Alliance on Aging, Meal on Wheels, the Pacific Grove and Monterey Womens Civic Clubs, Feast of Lanterns, Chautauqua Hall Preservation Society and the Monterey Historical Society. She was also a lifetime member of the Parent Teachers Association. She served on the Boards of Directors and served as President of many of these organizations and was recognized many times during her life for her commitment to the arts, seniors and her hometown of Pacific Grove. Among her awards was the Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce James R. Hughes Citizen of the Year, the Key to the City of Pacific Grove and the Quota Club of Monterey Woman of the Year. In 2010 the Pacific Grove Art recognized her commitment to the arts by naming a gallery in her honor, The Nadine M Annand Gallery. She was humbled and very proud of this recognition. The Paul Mortuary in Pacific Grove is handling arrangements. Nadine M. Annand will be interred in the Jones family plot in Oakland, California. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at a date to be determined.
