Obituary: Rae Ellen (Miller) Anicic 25, 1941 - 26, 2016 Rae Ellen Anicic of Fontana, CA, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side. She was born in Los Angeles, CA, at the Old General Hospital Bldg downtown on 25, 1941. Her parents were: Guadalupe Josephine Barajas Parcels of Mexico and Fredrick Herman Miller of Michigan. Rae Ellen was the youngest of 5 children. She grew up near downtown Los Angeles on Van Dome Street and parts of East Los Angeles. Her father was in the U.S. Navy, he had a photogenic mind and he also took care of the actual live MGM Lion in El Monte. Her mother worked in a defense plant during World War II, where she lost her hand in a stamping machine accident. Rae Ellen's ancestors came to Mexico from Spain in the late 1700's. She attended a Catholic Elementary School in downtown Los Angeles called Our Lady of Loretto, taught by the Presentation Nuns of San Francisco, Ca. Her High School was the same school but an all-girl 9-12 school Her first job was at the Queen of Angels hospital in the kitchen and later as a clerk at the Archdiocese Guild Book Store. She later worked in Burbank as a switchboard operator. She lived as a young lady with her Aunt Marie, Grandmother Barajas Parcels and mother, Lupe Miller. She belonged to several young adult Catholic clubs, where she met her future husband at a dance, John Charles Anicic Jr of Los Angeles and Fontana, Ca. dated a short time and fell in love with each other. Their first date was to the Rainbow Basin near Barstow to hunt for fossils, which her future husband collected while attending USC and UCLA, taking archaeology classes. several months, they decided to get married which surprised her mother. only met in early Spring and picked 30th for their wedding at USC Catholic Newman Chapel, where they now were members. John attended USC at that time, part-time. He also worked as a draftsman for F.G. Bramble, drawing maps of accident sites for court cases for many years before and after his time in the U.S. Air Force. married on 30, 1966, on a damp, misty day. This 2016 would have been their 50's wedding anniversary. Her ancestor's history went back to the Revolutionary War and Civil War. John, her husband, was a first generation child in the US. His passion was genealogy and he researched her family's tree. Rae Ellen loved her family deeply. Her husband wrote two books Fontana and Kaiser Steel and is writing others now. Rae Ellen and John also raised a foster son of 10 years from the Big Brother program. He lived with them til he graduated to the Boy's Republic in Chino after John Charles III was born. also belonged to the City of Los Angeles Cultural Exchange Program as docents for giving tours to foreign guests to Los Angeles. took them on tours of Disneyland, Marineland and many other places. lived on the edge of USC Campus in an apartment for several years, later moved to West Los Angeles below the Santa Monica Airport, where John worked at Lear Siegler Aerospace office drawing space rocket trails. He also worked as a security guard in Santa Monica, at a factory because of his security clearance and they later moved to the San Fernando Valley after Marie Therese was born on 6, 1968 in West Los Angeles, then their son, John Charles Anicic III was born on 13, 1968. lived near San Fernando for several years with their foster boy, til the Earthquake. The house they had lived in was heavily damaged, but they had moved a month before the quake to Fontana, Ca because his parents were not well and needed assistance. He went to work for Charlie Pagano Sr at Foothill Builders Mart for 20 years as Manager in charge of the Kaiser Steel account. Rae Ellen also worked there for a while, as did her children. John's father was president of the AARPS group and they joined also and Rae Ellen helped in the kitchen and was on their bowling team. She was a great bowler. She later went to work at the Resurrection Catholic Church's rectory as a cook. The children went to the school there. She helped start a bingo program on afternoons that ran for many years. She later went to work at the LA Gear Shoe plant in the office in Ontario and later became one of the first cash register operators to be hired at the WalMart in Fontana, CA and worked there for 10 years. Her husband worked a 6 day a week with a 7-7 pm shift, so she took the children to baseball, swimming, bowling and scouts while John was at work. The kids and John's parents, John Sr and Kathryn Anicic also worked at the Pepper Street House Museum where he and his dad were past presidents and on the board through all the restoration of the site for the Fontana Historical Society for many years. John Jr. was docent on s for years giving tours and working around museum. He docented while Rae was in charge of Bingo at the church. She retired from Wal-Mart after 10 years. She was also a member of the Resurrection Altar and Rosary Society for many years and also helped at the church office on s as a volunteer, before getting sick. She was also a docent for Kimberly Crest House Museum in Redlands with her husband for over 3 years. She was a member of the old Senior on continued... |
