Obituary: Doris Jean Martin Ayers, 88, of Green City, MO went home to meet the Lord at the Sullivan Memorial Hospital on , 16, 2016. Doris Jean was the youngest child of James W. and Lillie Osie Brannan Martin and was born in the Hawkeye Community west of Green City on 15, 1927. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Marvin Martin and Parmer Martin, and a nephew, Jack Martin. She is survived by her husband, Louis Randall Ayers, one son, Philip Ayers (Julie) of Kirksville, two daughters, Janet Adam (Daniel) of Monroe City, Dr. Constance Ayers (William Foster) of Friendswood, TX, seven grandchildren, Martin Ayers (Alison), Jessica Hobbs (Luke), Kimberley Ayers, Samantha Ayers, Regina Gottman, Alexander Gottman (Lisa), and Maxwell Gottman (Dana). She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren and one niece, Carla Long (Larry). Doris grew up in the Hawkeye Community, attending Hawkeye Grade School; and, at a time when women were expected to stay at home, she began a career in banking at the Farmers Bank of Green City when she was 16 years old. She graduated from the Green City High School in 1944. On 20, 1947, she married Louis in Olathe, Kansas. She continued in the banking business at the Columbia Union National Bank until Louis graduated from the University of Missouri; and they moved back to a farm north of Green City where she and Louis raised a family. She returned to banking in 1960, purchased the Variety Store in Green City in 1972, and owned and operated Ayers Variety Store for approximately fourteen years while also working in banking until she and Louis became part owners of ASI. She then worked as a travel agent arranging group tours of Canada and the United States even after her retirement in 1994. Doris Jean was active in church and community service throughout her life. She was a member of the Green City United Methodist Church, served as President of the United Methodist Women, and served as School Treasurer for many years. During her service as UMW President, she was responsible for bringing Meals on Wheels and American Red Cross Blood Drives to Green City. She co-chaired the Green City Centennial, was on the board of the Green City Rural Housing as well as ServLink Agency in Trenton, MO, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 365 and the Green City Lady Lions. Doris and Louis loved traveling and shared their love of America and adventure by showing their kids and grandkids much of the United States of America from the road. She was always there for her family and friends and made everyone feel welcome. She liked nothing better than spending time with her family. services for Doris Jean will be held 11:00 AM, , 21, 2016 at Ruschmeier in Green City. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet , east of Green City. A visitation is scheduled for evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Obituary: Donald Don Ayers, 76, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away , 14, 2010. Mass of Christian Burial will be held , 19th, 11:00 a.m., at St. Margaret of Scotland Church, 777 NE Blackwell Road, Lees Summit, MO, 64086, with burial following in the Lees Summit Historical . Visitation will be held , 18th, at McGilley State Line Chapel, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., where the Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. attendees are encouraged to wear festive colors in celebration of Dons love of life, family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Margaret of Scotland Church. Mr. Ayers was born 10, 1933 in Manhattan, Kansas. He graduated from Webster Groves High School in Webster Groves, Missouri, just outside of St. Louis, where he excelled in track. He went on to earn a BS degree in Business Administration from Kansas State University in 1955. In his college years, Don pledged Delta Tau Delta and remained a life-long member. Following graduation, he served five years as a navigator in the United States Air Force. In 1961, following a year of post-graduate study at Kansas State, he joined the public accounting firm of Peat Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in Kansas City, MO, ultimately achieving the position of Audit Manager. In 1973, he joined the world headquarters of H&R Block, Inc., in Kansas City as Treasurer, rising to Vice President of Finance where he directed all accounting, corporate tax, financial reporting, insurance and investor relations functions, as well as fulfilling his duties as corporate treasurer. Following retirement from H&R Block after a twenty year career, Mr. Ayers transferred to Ft. Lauderdale, FL where he was contracted for three years as Chief Financial Officer at the H&R Block subsidiary, Interim Services, Inc. His primary responsibility was the spin off and reorganization of Interim as a public company. He was one of the three corporate officers responsible for the very successful initial public offering. Mr. Ayers retired from Interim Services, Inc. in 1997 and resided in Shell Knob, MO, before returning to Kansas City. Don was a member and past president of the KC Chapter of Financial Executives Institute, and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He was also a volunteer in the Shell Knob First Responders and the Central Crossing Fire Department. moving back to Kansas City, he was a member of Council 13908 Knights of Columbus, served on St. Margaret of Scotlands Finance Council and was an Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion. Don was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed building and flying RC model planes. He was truly a most extraordinary man as well as a loving and gentle soul, and he will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched. Don was preceded in death by his parents, David Paul and Marguerite Elizabeth Ayers. He is survived by his wife of twenty-eight years, Constance Conni Tobin; Lillian Ayers, mother of his children; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald Stephen and Stella Ayers; daughter and son-in-law, Karen Elizabeth and Tim Canon; eight grandchildren, and two brothers, Douglas Tom and David Charles Ayers. |
