Obituary: Claudia was born in Oakland, CA to George and Florence Pringle. She attended Oakland Technical High School and University of California, Berkeley. In 1954, she met Ens. George Aitcheson, a Navy pilot, who was stationed at Moffet Field near Oakland and was visiting his close flight training friend and Claudia's cousin, Ens. Donald Pringle. A romance began which led to their marriage in 1955. had decided to wait until George returned from his upcoming deployment to the western pacific aboard the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany. were married when he returned from the deployment and had 59 wonderful years together. Claudia is survived by her husband George, 3 children George, Kent and Carol and 6 grandchildren, Robert, Erin, Kevin, Collin, Andrew and Torri. In her early years, she was very asthmatic and her mother would take she and her 2 sisters to her uncle's ranch in Doris, CA for the summer. Claudia enjoyed her summers and the dry air which helped her breathing. She continued these summers until she was 13. She became quite adept on horseback and would ride with the ranchers to bring the cattle in. While in high school and college she enjoyed skiing and ice skating and belonged to a Bay Area skating club that competed. Later she enjoyed playing tennis, and eventually took up golf. During her 33 years as a Navy wife she was a very active volunteer in our Navy Relief organization and Navy Wives Club activities. Claudia enjoyed painting and painted a number of Hawaiian scenes while stationed there. She was a very active member in the Pacific Beach Presbyterian Church over the years and served on a number of committees. Claudia was a very upbeat and cheerful person, always putting other people first. She would light up the room with her beautiful smile and upbeat personalty and made everyone she came in contact with feel better. Claudia was a wonderful navy wife for 33 years and was loved by the officer and enlisted wives in George's Commands. She worked closely with them, particularly the young wives who would be experiencing for the first time being separated for long periods at a time when husbands would be deployed at sea. Later as an Admiral's wife, she was a wonderful hostess and guest at Navy and State social and formal events and functions. She and George were active in a number of Navy social and professional organizations after he retired from the Navy. She enjoyed their annual reunions because it gave her a chance to visit her East Coast friends they knew from their navy days. Heaven gained an angel. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 , 9, 2015 at the Pacific Beach Presbyterian Church. |
