Obituary: Chester Lee Adkison passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones at the age of 94 on Nov. 7, 2014. Chet was born on 20, 1920, in Yakima, Washington, to his father, Chester Adkison, and mother, Iva Mitchell Adkison. He moved to Vallejo as a child with his mother; he attended Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Vallejo High in 1938. Immediately following high school, he worked in the logging industry throughout Northern California until he went to work as a sheet metal worker in Shop 17 at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in of 1940. Also in 1940, Chet married the love of his life Margaret in Reno, Nevada. Chet enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1944 and served in World War II as a 2nd Lieutenant of the Mechanized Calvary. During his time abroad he served as Commander, Executive Officer and Platoon Leader with the 28th Constabulary Squadron, Troop C at Hof, Germany in the Russian-American Zone and on the Czechoslovakian Border. He returned stateside to serve as Executive Officer and Training Instructor at Camp Hood, Texas, with A , 175th Battalion, 96th Regiment. Upon his discharge from active duty, he continued to proudly serve as a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves until 1959. his discharge from active duty, he returned to work as a sheet metal worker for a short time at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington, until he transferred back to Mare Island. He retired as a draftsman after 30 years of service. During his time at the yard he received multiple accommodations for patents that improved productivity and efficiency. retirement, Chet and his wife, Margaret, moved to Lakehead, California, to live at Lake Shasta full time. Both Chet and Margaret remain iconic members of the community of Lakehead, where they are loved by friends and neighbors. Chet served as the president of the local water department for many years and the past president and one of the original members of the local Lions Club. He enjoyed traveling extensively with his wife and family throughout the U.S. With a great affinity for the outdoors, he loved to camp, fish and spend time on the lake water skiing and pontoon boating with his friends and family. An avid sports fan, he liked to watch both football and baseball. As a loyal 49er and Giants fan, he got great satisfaction watching the Giants win the 2014 World Series. Above all else, Chet had a deep love of family and cherished spending time with each of the many generations of his family. In 2011, he and his wife returned to live in Napa, and always looked forward to taking a drive in the country, picnics at Lake Hennessey, family fishing days, John Wayne movies and shopping at Costco. He had an uncanny knack for striking up random conversations with strangers. As an avid reader, he loved Westerns, liked to sit in the sunshine and read the morning paper. He had a sweet tooth and enjoyed any opportunity to make his famous pineapple upside-down cake. Chet is survived by his wife, Margaret Adkison, of nearly 75 years; son Chet and wife Linda Adkison of Camby, Oregon; daughter Peggy and husband Robert Roberson of Napa; daughter Debbie and husband Bob Phillips of Vallejo; and daughter Donna McCarthy of American Canyon; and eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
