Obituary: Ronald was born in a military hospital in Albany, Georgia on 14th, 1969, the day before Fathers Day. Ronalds first birthday, the family moved to Brunswick, Maine, where he was raised as an only child for five years until Rhoda Faye came along. moved from Maine to Moffett Field in 1975 before Rhoda Fayes first birthday, and in 1977, the family moved again, this time, to Adak, Alaska. In Alaska, Ronald became quite popular in a community of mostly military personnel and their dependents. He participated in every sport event that the island offered, including karate and fishing derbies. He was always at the top of his class, and the Spelling Bee class champion every year while he was in Adak. In 1980, he represented his school in the State of Alaska Spelling Bee championship. Being one of the youngest during that time, he persevered until he was eliminated on the second day. He was the only Filipino in a pool of 150 contestants at the state level championship. The family of four finally settled in San Jose, California in the summer of 1980. Fortunately, this was their last move in his dads military journey, as his dad retired in 1982. Ronald continued his education in Sierramont Middle School and Independence High School. At San Jose State University, he received his bachelor science degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering. Ron started working as soon as he was allowed to work. One of his first jobs was at the Telephone Auction where the rest of his high school friends also worked and was even the place in which he met his future life-long partner, Grace. Because of his early love of computers and technology, he would make a career out of it. He worked for multiple companies including Abbott, Cosine, 2Wire, and AT&T. Ron married his high school sweetheart in 1996 and became a father in 2001 when his daughter Caitlyn was born. In 2004, this family of three lost a baby named Gabriella but in 2013, gained a canine son by adopting a Shiba Inu puppy named Kenji. Ron loved to travel and shared this love with his whole family - they traveled through different countries in Europe, from Canada to Puerto Vallarta and Cancun, and to various parts of the United States, especially all the islands of Hawaii. The familys favorite vacation trips were Disney cruises. One of the highlights of his travels was when Grace and Caitlyn accompanied him to his business trip to Sydney, Australia. Ron became an avid cyclist - starting from mountain biking (traveling to Mammoth Lakes and Lake Tahoe) and becoming a competitor in mountain, road and cyclocross bike races. He loved to compete in different categories as well as ride with his cycling friends, riding for hundreds of miles and joining the Lechon Ride every Thanksgiving. Riding up Sierra and Calaveras Roads was part of his daily routine as well as a quick mountain bike ride in the Alum Rock Park. Ron was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) the day before Thanksgiving Day 2015. From that day on, he would experience multiple surgeries and diagnostic tests, e.g. CT scans, MRI, bone scan, & x-rays, as well as different types of treatments, e.g. chemotherapy, target therapy and immunotherapy. the initial sessions of chemotherapy, it was found that the cancer metastasized further up his left thigh and warranted an additional surgery to remove the tumor. Because Ron still hoped to ride his bike again in the future, he chose to have above the knee amputation instead of losing his entire left leg. His left leg was amputated above the knee in late 2016 and Ronald was started on a new targeted therapy drug. A CT scan in 2016 showed a new tumor on his left pelvic area, and he was started on another treatment regimen that was more potent only to discover that it was also futile. Shortly afterwards, his doctor told him that his tumor was drug-resistant and incurable. Now, the goal was to treat Ron and try to extend his life as long as possible. The last regimen of his treatment, a type of immunotherapy, started a week after his 48th birthday. Unfortunately, the immunotherapy seemed to aggravate the cancer and led to complications with Rons vital organs. The last two weeks of his life consisted of ups and downs, hopes and disappointments, and spending time with beloved family and friends; however, once nothing else could be done to improve his condition, he eventually decided to go home on hospice. Obituary: Regina Maria Salazar Abeyta was born May 16, 1927 and went to Heaven on 14, 2013. Regina was born in Rio Arriba , New Mexico to Pedro and Matilda Salazar on May 16, 1927. She is survived by her sisters Rita, Tillie , Carmen and her brothers Ray, Wilfredo and numerous nephews and nieces and Cousins throughout California, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, Texas, Utah and New Mexico. She was married to Teodoro Abeyta 26, 1946 and they had seven children together: Marcia Abeyta Roussey, her husband Ron and their two sons Benjamin and Lucas, Gloria, Mattie, Donna , Donny, Ted and his wife Mary and their two children, Caeli and Teddy , and Mark Abeyta and his two daughters Bailey and Brenna. Ted and Regina moved to California from New Mexico in 1950 and settled in Lakewood in 1953. became Members of St. Pancratius Church immediately and all 7 children attended St. Pancratius Grade School. Ted worked 33 years at Northrop and Regina worked 27 years at, The May in Lakewood. She began suffering from Alzheimers in 2004/2005 and we admitted her in the Woodruff Convalescent . Ted, her husband went there 3 times a day for 7 years to help my mom eat. Mattie, Donna and Gloria also spent numerous evenings with her as well. Regina was a great mother, and an exceptional grandmother. All six of her grandchildren will tell you that. She will be Deeply missed, however she was needed in Heaven, it was her time to go and I can guarantee you this, My mom went to a Garden Party, to reminisce with her old friends, a chance to share old memories, there was magic In the air. We love you mom and we will never forget you!! Pray for us and we will pray for you, Your son Mark. |
