Obituary: Carl Lane Atkinson, Sr., 73, of Brunswick, died , 15, 2012 at his residence. services will be held 11 AM , 20, 2012 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with Bishop Dean Wilson officiating. Pallbearers will be members of the priesthood. Interment will follow in Chapel Park with full military honors. Born 12, 1938 in Elizabethtown, NC to the late Charles Clyde and Vera Crosby Melvin Atkinson, he was a retired Chief Petty Officer from the US Navy, and was a former employee with the Georgia Department of Labor as a safety inspector. Mr. Atkinson was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and had resided in Glynn for over 17 years. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and was an avid movie buff. Other activities that he enjoyed were travel and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 8 brothers, Charles Crosby Atkinson, Roger Atkinson, Claude Atkinson, John Atkinson, Mark Randolph Atkinson, , Robert Earl Atkinson, Alford Clyde Atkinson, and Wiley Clay Atkinson, and 4 sisters, Korein Eagan, Bess Wiseman, Ethel Atkinson, and Effie Margaret Atkinson. Survivors include his wife of over 50 years, Ethel E. Atkinson of Brunswick, two sons, Carl Lane Atkinson, Jr., of Brunswick, USMC Lance Corporal Zachery Dale Atkinson and wife Constance of 29 Palms, CA, three daughters, Patricia Dianne Beach of Port Royal, SC, Paula Denise Valliere and husband Gene of Palm Coast, FL, and Pamela Deneen Allen of Brunswick, eleven grandchildren, Stephen Bridges, Charles Bridges, Amy Denise Tihlarik, Bill Napier, Jr., Mathew Allen, Katelynn Huckabaa, Kristen Huckabaa, Keira Atkinson, John Beach, Justin Beach, and Nicholas Beach, two great grandchildren, Emma Denise Tihlarik and Alexander Louis Atkinson, three sisters, Lee Lorenz of Henderson, Nevada, Sallie Eddy of Lehi, UT, and Watkins of Taylors, SC, and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, The American Heart Association, The American Cancer Society, and the American Legion. Obituary: Washington Eugene (Gene) Atkins, 85, passed away , 12, 2016. Mr. Atkins was born 25, 1931, In Cherokee , the son of the late, Marion F. Atkins and Beulah (Keel) Atkins. He was retired from Lockheed and was a Veteran having served in the U.S. Navy, U.S. Army and U.S. Airforce. He was a member of the Stilesboro Masonic Lodge #250, and was involved with the Masons for over 60 years. Mr. Atkins was a member of the Boy Scouts of America for 75 years and received his Eagle Scout in 1949, was the first ever given NESA-Northwest Georgia Council Outstanding Eagle Scout Award in 2015 and a Member of Order of Arrow in 1972 and received a Silver Beaver Award in 1965. He was a member of Pleasant Olive Baptist Church in Rydal. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruth Marie Poole Atkins and brothers and sisters and nephews, Surviving are his children, Jeanette and Larry McCollum of Cartersville, Jeanice Atkins of Cleveland, Tennessee, Donna and Barry Jackson of Cartersville and Jinger Hall of St. ine, Florida, a brother, Hardie Atkins of Cartersville, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren and special companion, his pet, Geico. services will be held , 15, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Owen with Rev. Adam Toole and Rev. Larry Hufstetler officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Baptist Church . The family will receive friends at the funeral home evening from 4:00-9:00 p.m. and from 11:00a.m.until 2:00 p.m. . Pallbearers will be members of the Boy Scouts of America. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Stilesboro Lodge #260 and members of the Boy Scouts of America. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Boy Scouts of America, Stilesboro Masonic Lodge or Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.
