Obituary: George A. Army Armstrong, Jr., CLU, of Chattanooga, TN, passed away 5, 2011 in a local health care facility. He was preceded in death by his wife Bobbie Faye Mullis Armstrong and was the son of the late Faye Brouhard Armstrong and George Austin Armstrong, Sr. A lifelong resident of the North Georgia area, Mr. Armstrong was active in the Lakeview Lions Club helping with community fund raising events, manning the concession stand at football games for Lakeview High School, and participating as a Trail Twister at the meetings. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Fairview Chapter of the Lions Club. His career in insurance began at National Burial, later National Trust Life, and spanned several decades. In the late 1960s he earned his Chartered Life Underwriters designation. retiring from the insurance business Mr. Armstrong worked at Chattanooga . He was a member of the Brainerd Baptist Church where he was well known as one of the greeters. He always had a smile, a hug and a peppermint for members as they arrived. He and Bobbie were active with the seniors group for several years and enjoyed traveling with that group. Through the church Mr. Armstrong volunteered for many years at NHC Chattanooga and was called by the staff a Shining Light in their presence. He is survived by three daughters, Charlea Stone, Rossville, GA, Donna (Darwin) Akins, Maitland, FL and Leslie (Joe) Johnson, Chattanooga; three grandchildren, Jennifer Stone, Chattanooga, Erin (John) Fister, Lexington, KY and Joseph Johnson, Chattanooga; two great-granddaughters, Zoe and Avery Fister, Lexington, KY; two sisters, Gloria (Raymond) Berry, Rossville, GA and Tommie Hunt, Atlanta, GA. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. in the Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park with the Rev. Barry Wilkes officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416. The family would like to thank the staff of NHC and Hospice for their care and compassion. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga , Crematory & Florist, 404 S. Moore Road. |

Obituary: George Edmond Armstrong, Born 31, 1918 Died 4, 2017 Married and devoted to the late Catherine Feckoury Armstrong. Father to 5 children, Barbara Melton Johnson (Gene Johnson), Edmond E. Armstrong (Patricia Armstrong), Catherine A. Sale, Ken Armstrong, Richard Armstrong. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Armstrong started his career in the printing industry at John Harland in 1933 and finished after 50 years with Williams Printing Co. Retiring at age 71. During his long career he was instrumental in the many awards won by Williams Printing for Excellency in Printing and some personal awards along the way. The Printing Association of Georgia Benjamin Franklin man of the year award, distinguished service award from the Atlanta Club of printing house craftsmen, Certificate of appreciation for contributions to National Defense from the National committee for employer support of the Guard and Reserve, Honorary Life membership in the Graphic Communications International Union, and Lt. Colonel, aide De Camp, Governors staff Georgia Governor Joe Frank Harris. Mr. Armstrong served as treasurer of the Litho Club and President of the Craftmans Club. Mr. Armstrong served as treasurer of Rehoboth Presbyterian Church and is a Ruling Elder in the Presbyterian Church. |
