Obituary: John Roger Adsit, 57, died peacefully , 24, 2011, at his home in Atlanta, Ga. after a courageous battle against cancer. Mr. Adsit was born May 22nd, 1953 in Detroit, Michigan to John and Lainoumel Adsit. Roger was a devoted husband and a lover of animals, especially to the many dogs and cats who were blessed to belong to him and his wife, Karen. He was a self-taught, highly skilled carpenter who worked on many commercial and residential construction projects. Whether the project was for corporate CEOs, local physicians, executives, churches or neighbors, all recognized Rogers commitment to quality workmanship, professionalism and honesty. His open and out-going nature earned him many genuine and lasting friendships among his clients and associates. As a youngster, Roger and his family moved from Detroit and spent time in Atlanta, Raleigh, N.C. and Danville, Va. He spent frequent summers at his grandparents house in the small town of Rosiclare, Ill. There, he had many adventures with his grandparents and two brothers, Rick and Danny. Later, he and his family returned to the Atlanta area. He graduated from Columbia High School in Decatur in 1971 and traveled to Europe. His fascination for architecture and the artistry of construction grew from there. He settled in Atlanta, where he built his career and spent his adult years. Mr. Adsit was married to Karen Brook Steinwedel on May 25th, 1991 in Atlanta. He was affiliated with the Church of Christ. His interests included cooking, fresh and saltwater fishing, college football, baseball, current events and vacationing with his wife and dogs. He had a great sense of humor, liked funny pranks, enjoyed family and friends and relished his work. Those who knew and loved him will miss his presence every day. Roger is survived by his wife, Karen Brook Adsit; mother, Lainoumel DeLoache Adsit; brother, John Richard Adsit III and his spouse, Patricia Stephenson Adsit; nephew John Richard Adsit IV; niece Jennifer Adsit Marrs and her spouse, David Lee Marrs II; and great niece Catriona Shea Marrs; brother, Daniel Eric Adsit and sister-in-law, Betsy Claire Steinwedel. He is preceded in death by his father, John Richard Adsit, Jr., grandfather, John Richard Adsit, Sr., grandmother, Willie Adsit and great aunt, Jerri Walden. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. , 9th, 2011 at Oglethorpe Hill Chapel. There will be a visitation for family and friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Atlanta or PAWS Atlanta. |
