Obituary: Alexander Alanis Abeita was carried in the loving, protective wings of his Legions of Guardian Angels on 12, 2016 at 11:24 pm into Divine Peace in his Lord. Just 23 days after his 95th birthday he left this world quietly with ease, graced by the love of his large family. He blessed us all during that sacred time of transition as his soul was lifted out of a worn out, over used body that had not experienced any major illness and into the joy of reunion with all of his family of origin and his ol’buddies that passed before him. Born 20, 1920 in Hunters Bend, just outside of Austin,Texas, he was one of 11 children from Pedro and Maria Alanis Abeita. He was best known by his nick name, PeeWee, ashe was the youngest with 4 brothers and 6 sisters elder to him. He was a typical “baby of the family” in his rascal, fun loving ways. All his life, he carried in his heart the love of baseball. He spoke with pride and joy of being the pitcher on a Austin team that was written up in the local paper of his day. And in his late years when he rarely got out of his recliner he watched ALL the baseball leagues play on TV. He especially loved the Little League games and of course stayed loyal to the Texas Rangers. In 1941 Alex married Virginia Arechiga who’s father Felix was a good friend of the Abeita family. had 5 children. He is survived by his wife Virgie, their 2 daughters Elizabeth Gutierrez and Kachina Cynthianna Abeita, their 3 sons, Lawrence Abeita, John Alexander Abeita and his wife Debbie, Ronald Mitchell Abeita and his wife Laura Ann, 9 grandchildren,9 great grandchildren and 1 great grand son. Alex and Virgie made a bold step to leave their large, close knit families in Austin and moved to Dallas, Texas in the early 1940s where he lived until his last breath. The opportunity to work at the Ward Drug Store was what brought them to Dallas. But it wasn’t until he was mentored by a relative who knew the Ceramic Tile trade that he found his career. In time Pee Wee became a successful tile man assisted by his wife who picked up supplies and managed the books. He then trained many of the male relatives in his family from brothers-in-law to sons to sons-in-law who then trained their brothers and sons and then their sons. When his grandchildren, Lydia and David, prayed over Grandpa PeeWee in his last hours, expressing gratitude to him for all the men who learned this trade and were able to provide for their families, we whole-heartedly understood that THIS is the legacy of Alex Abeita “The Tile Man”. He pounded in a strong work ethic in the hundreds of times he would ask each and everyone of us, “How’s work?…Are you working?…Did you work today?…Are you working s?” So, if you ever wanted to make this man proud or still want to feel his love…Get to Work |
